There has been a church in this village since at least 1340, possibly on this site. The present church is early 18th century, incorporating parts of a medieval church. The chancel dates from 1537 and the nave and aisle were rebuilt in 1720 and the unusual two storey west porch added later in the century. The 18th (?) century box pews, organ loft and three-decker pulpit were replaced in 1874, and the replacements replaced in their turn by the present pitch pine pews in 1906. A replica of the huge, handsome 18th century sundial on the south wall of the nave, was made in 2004, complete with timeless (!) inscriptions. The Grade II Parker family vault in the yard needs some TLC. Strange to see sheep grazing between the stones in the church yard but maybe this will become more widespread as the cost of grass-cutting increases.
