Ground Plan Description and Dimensions
Ground plan:
Cruciform, with crossing tower (which should have had a spire), four bay nave with aisles and a two-storeyed vestry south of the chancel.
Description of Archaeology and History
The church was designed by Vickers and Hugall of Pontefract in 1852. The sacristy south of the chancel seems to have been later and may date from the time when Matthew Holding sought to improve the lighting of the nave by adding a clerestory and two more lancets to each single light in the aisles. The church was consecrated on 3rd August, 1852.
Exterior Description
The church was built of Dunston stone; the roof slopes were covered with Welsh slates.
