A neo-Norman church of 1832 by Sir Robert Smirke who was working on Lowther Castle at the time. Extraordinary leaded windows to Smirke's design with small diamond panes set at angles to catch the light at any time of day or season. Some relics of the earlier church replaced by Smirke's design, survive in the present church.

Interior
Interior Description
The interior has a four-bay arcade and a west nave gallery. The fittings include a font dated 1661, a panelled pulpit, Commandment boards and nineteenth century panelled oak pews, the ends carved with Lowther arms. There are several small nineteenth century white marble wall plaques.
The transept was the burial chamber of the Sandford family of Askham Hall and has some re-set seventeenth century and eighteenth century wall plaques.
