Description of Archaeology and History
St, Andrews is a Grade 1 listed building and is constructed of Ancaster stone and was built in the early part of the 14th century. The church has been fitted with solid oak pews sometime in the 19th century both in the main body of the church and to both North and South aisle. At the West end of the Nave there stands a six-sided medieval carved stone font which dates from the 14th century and is lead lined and stands on three steps. It is believed that the niches on each is would have held statues.
Exterior Description
St, Andrews is a Grade 1 listed building and is constructed of Ancaster stone and was built in the early part of the 14th century.
The building is 164 feet (49.2 meters) long with a spire measuring 186 feet (55.8 meters). A notable feature is the approximately 180 gargoyles and grotesques around the outside of the church. The seven light East window is said to be one of England’s finest displays of flowing tracery.
The church has a large Nave with a clerestory together with North and South Transepts.

Interior Description
In the Chancel, the medieval Easter Sepulcher is of such fame that a replica of it was made for the 1851 Great Exhibition. Opposite it in the sanctuary is the highly regarded large three seat Sedilia and just to the left is the unusual double Pessina. At the west end of the Nave there is a wooden balcony adjacent to the bell ringing room. There are eight bells in use, the oldest of which is dated 1651.
A modern small kitchen area and toilets have been added in recent years.
The church has been fitted with solid oak pews sometime in the 19th century both in the main body of the church and to both North and South aisle. There are two sets of oak choir stalls in the chancel.
The Organ was built in 1869 by Charles Brindley and is thought to be the largest in any village church in England. It was extensively renovated and rebuilt in 2015 with a new console added to the East end of the choir stalls. Below is a display of the 46 organ stops donated by the congregation.
