St Andrew’s Church, Leigh is located approximately 5 miles southwest of Sherborne. It is a Grade II* listed building located within one of the two designated conservation areas in the village. It was formerly a chapel to the neighbouring parish of Yetminster before it became a separate parish church in 1849 and the churchyard consecrated. It comprises a nave, chancel, north aisle, south porch, north WC extension (modern) and west tower. The church is built of local limestone with Ham Hill stone dressings beneath a combination of slate, plain tiles and leaded roofs and seats approximately 100 people. There is a peal of six bells retuned and rehung in 1995. These were safety checked most recently in 2018.

Description of Archaeology and History
It has 15th century origins but was largely restored around 1854 when the chancel was rebuilt and the north aisle added, attributed to the architect R H Shout. Further restoration works were carried out in 1889.
The east windows to the chancel and north aisle are 19th century and are of three-lights in a Perpendicular style with hoodmould and head stops. The chancel window also contains three-lights of stain glass depicting the crucified Christ between St Mary and St John and dates from about 1850. This window underwent restoration earlier this century and is already fitted with external copper guards which remain securely fixed and although slightly deformed are fit for purpose.
The east window of the north aisle was installed around 1900 and shows the risen Christ with St Mary Magdalene. It was commissioned from Percy Bacon Brothers of Newman Street, London
who were in the glass manufacturing and design business at this address between 1892 and 1931 and the business subsequently closed in the mid-1930s following Percy’s death.. The window is typical of their work with reliance on painted detail and stippled shading, hair is stained yellow and the robes are quite richly attired with heavy pearl borders.
